David Shin

Independent researcher & software developer

I build AI systems, focusing on turn-based strategy games. My recent work includes a high-performance generic AlphaZero research framework. Currently I am working on building the first superhuman (by 2026 standards) Scrabble AI.

I worked at Jump Trading during the years 2008-2022, where I co-led a trading team, focusing on problems in systems engineering, performance optimization, and quantitative modeling. Prior to that, I worked as a software engineer at Google/YouTube.

I received Bachelor's Degrees in Mathematics (Course 18) and EECS (Course 6) at MIT, as well as an M. Eng. degree in EECS at MIT. As a high school student, I represented Team USA at the 2001 International Mathematical Olympiad.
